Battery OEM shipping
Lead-acid batteries are Class 8 corrosive dangerous goods. OEM shipping is a documentation and packaging discipline as much as a logistics one — get the classification and paperwork right and the container moves; miss it and it sits at the port.
Dangerous-goods classification
Wet lead-acid batteries are Class 8 (corrosive) under the IMDG Code:
- UN 2794 — batteries, wet, filled with acid.
- UN 2800 — batteries, wet, non-spillable (where the battery meets the vibration and pressure-differential tests).
Unlike lithium (Class 9), lead-acid needs no UN 38.3 report — but it still needs Class 8 labelling, compliant packaging and, where applicable, a dangerous-goods declaration.
Packaging
Terminals protected against shorting, upright orientation, export-grade pallets sized to the container plan, and mixed-model loading where agreed.
Export documentation
At minimum: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin and a dangerous-goods declaration — plus test reports and MSDS where the destination requires them.
Incoterms and freight
Shipment is made under the Incoterms agreed in writing (FOB, CFR or CIF). Production lead time is 30–45 days; ocean freight and clearance add 3–5 weeks.

What documents does a battery shipment need?
At least five: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin and a dangerous-goods declaration — plus test reports and MSDS where required.
Which Incoterms do you ship under?
FOB, CFR or CIF, as agreed in writing. Risk transfers at the point defined by the agreed Incoterm.
How long does shipping take?
Production lead time is 30–45 days; add 3–5 weeks for ocean freight and clearance.
